Crash Course of 2017, studio visit and Silent Disco workshop at Laura Kuusk’s studio at ARS building.

April 17 – May 17 2018 Tue and Thu 17:30–20:30   Contemporary Photography Crash Course is a foundation course for Photography studies at the Estonian Academy of Arts. The purpose of the course is to push participants to think critically about photography as an art form.   During the course each participant develops a conceptual photographic series. In addition to the series, participants read theoretical texts to conceptualize the photographic medium in the context of contemporary visual culture; students are introduced to photographic art practices, visiting artists’ studios, exhibitions and artist talks. By the end of the course, the participants have an overview of the entrance exams, Photography department’s study methods and the contemporary art practice in Estonia.   The Crash Course started as a social art project and has been taking place since 2015. It is conducted by the alumnae of the Department of Photography and EAA lecturers Mari Armei and Fidelia Randmäe. From 2018 the Contemporary Photography Crash Course is a collaboration project between the Department of Photography (EAA) and Estonian Union of Photography Artists.
