The Others Art Fair ’19
31.10.–3.11.2019
Estonian Union of Photography Artists (Foku) participated at The Others Art Fair in Turin with the works by Tarvo Varres “The Shadow of a Flame” (2013) and Hedi Jaansoo “Everything’s instantly a memory and tiny golden things on the floor” (2019).
The two artworks, both dominant on their own, presented together in this context to reveal the delicate balance in the spatial and temporal conditions of a fair. The dialogue between them appears through accuracy, fragility and abundance, to create the experience of tension. Varres’s works reveal traces of living, fragments of everyday life, which is similarly addressed by Hedi Jaansoo. A detective approach is visible in both works – a direct illumination of the footprints and scattering of the evidence around the exhibition space.
Hedi Jaansoo was awarded the prize Artist in Residency at The Others Art Fair. She got to spend a month in Roussas, south of France. The Galerie van Cauwelaert in Berlin has instituted the prize in collaboration with the fair. The Curatorial Board was composed of Lorenzo Bruni, Amélie Quillet, Romualdo Demidenko, Yulia Belousova and Simone Ciglia. Foku’s participation at The Others Art Fair ’19 was generously supported by Cultural Endowment of Estonia.
